The North Beach is on fire!

I always go out to the lighthouse at Point Reyes, and looking back at north beach is a regular practice. 
It's an 11 mile long straight beach and you are high enough to look the whole distance.
On this particular trip the sunset was proceeding perfectly; as you can see the beach is on fire!

AS near as historians can figure out this is the spot Sir Francis Drake beached his ships for repairs during his circumnavigation of the world.

I looked down, saw the footprints, and found them quite interesting.
They have washed out in reverse, leaving raised prints where the soil had been compacted.
