Eagle Peak via Mitchell Rock
That's the quarry in the background, the pyramid-looking thing back there.
It's at the end of Mitchell Canyon Road out of Clayton, (Walnut Creek area.)

I'm headed up that ridge there in just a few minutes. That's Eagle Peak up that way.

Here's this really cool rock outcrop where I'm at right now.

Here it is again from up above.
A few minutes ago I was down there where those people are.

Snow on the Sierra's
It's a really clear day today. I can see the snow up on the Sierra's and, (in the lower photo,) even the cooling towers over on I-5.

If you look carefully you can even see the large cooling towers over on I-5 in the photo below.

Looking west from Eagle Peak.
We're overlooking the I-680 valley and further back behind that far ridge, Berkeley and the bay.
Might be some of Walnut Creek in the mid area.

Another Mt. Diablo trip - 2 weeks later
Donner Creek Falls
This time I'm starting on Regency Blvd. just a little bit east of Mitchell Canyon.
You can see the quarry in the background again, although I'm further away.
Last time I was on the other side of that ridge you see there in the background.

The Falls
If you want to photograph the falls, the afternoon would be much better for the light.
When I was there it was morning and in the shade.
I did manage to get both falls in one photo, two examples of which are below.

Taller photo's like this are one of the few reasons for turning your camera vertical.
Generally, keep your camera flat, horizontal.
There's a reason TV's, and movies, and stuff are horizontal... your eye's are horizontal.
But in some cases, vertical

More rain would also have been a big plus!
This is a major drought, you know!

Ten-million Ladybugs!
I went right by these at first, except another hiker/photographer pointed them out to me.

Sometime soon I've got to make the trip all the way up Mt. Diablo.
Especially if there's any hope whatsoever that I might do Half Dome this year.
I've got to admit, that's actually a little scary.
15 miles and about 4,800 ft. elevation gain.
That's three times the mileage, and the elevation gain of the Mitchell Canyon trip!
But I ain't getting any younger.
If I'm a gonna go, it best be soon.
Of course I could just quit and give up now.
Naw. That doesn't sound like any fun.
