Castle Rock State Park
I've never been to Castle Rock before.
It was great. Lot's of boulders to climb. We even found this really cool cave. We crawled up this cliff face to it, (there's Jerry.) Inside it was a great little apartment, like something out of the Flintstones with inset oval tables and a sleeping bag cove. Wish I could have gotten some pics but I wasn't even carrying my cellphone up this in case I fell. |
Directions:On the peninsula:
Take Hwy 92 westbound towards Half Moon Bay. At he summit, turn south on Hwy 35 about 28 miles. About two miles south of Hwy 9 watch for the entrance on the right. From the East Bay: Take I-880 / Hwy 17 towards Santa Cruz. At Los Gatos take Hwy 9 west to Hwy 35, about 12 miles. Turn south on Hwy 35 about 2.5 miles to the entrance on your right. The HikeWe went out the Saratoga Gap Trail, (where we found this cave,) and past the waterfalls, (which were dry,) to the campground and then came back on the Ridge Trail.
It's about 5.5 miles, plus we detoured to Castle Rock on the way back which adds about 1/2 mile. Overall altitude gain was about 1,231', although it's down going in and you do your climbing on the way back out. |
