The Weird Left Turn

"A" Street and I-880, Hayward, CA.

I never saw a weird left turn like this before.
Most times the concrete island separates different directions of traffic.
Not so here.
It actually separates two lanes of the same direction of traffic and puts two different directions together.
Weird.
